Myrtle Beach is great in the winter too! Trust me....

I have been living in Myrtle Beach for over two years now. I've been here on vacation a couple times before that. Once during high school spring break. Wow, that was a while ago......

Anyway, the one thing that surprised me was the weather. Coming from Kentucky, we had a proper four seasons. Hot and sticky in the summer and snow in the winter. When I came to Myrtle Beach, well....it was still rather hot during the summer, (but not as sticky because of the ocean breeze).  The winters though, were very nice. I didn't have to scrape ice off my window in the morning or wear five layers outside. Needless to say, the winter in Myrtle Beach is quite mild.

Myrtle Beach during the summer is quite busy. Lots of extra traffic adds to driving times.  You can ask any local who drives along Ocean Blvd daily that the winter car traffic is close to non-existant. Switch that over to summer, and you are at a snail's pace! So what's my point?  Well, there are quite a few advantages and only a few disadvantages to booking a Myrtle Beach winter rental.  I'm not talking about winter in the dead of winter though.  "Winter" when talking about accommodations, lasts from about October to March, when rental rates are very low. And believe me, the weather is beautiful in October and November.

Even golfers take advantage of the nice weather. Most golf business is during the spring and fall. It's just too hot during the summer to get out there and play golf! Even so, the prices do go down during the winter as well, and most courses do stay open for winter golf. You might need a jacket, but hey, you are going to save quite a bit of money taking advantage of the Myrtle Beach winter golf rates.

I did mention disadvantages though, didn't I? Well, you can't swim in the ocean. Usually after October, the water is a bit cold for some people. I do see them swimming though, but the beach is nowhere near as packed giving you room to breathe. You can throw around the football or frisbee without fear of hitting someone else.  The great thing about it is that you can rent an oceanfront condo and walk right out onto the beach!  Make sure and do your research though to find the best deals on Myrtle Beach winter specials. Because of the low volume of people during the winter, rental companies constantly try to get more business by lowering their rates with last minute specials.

Also keep in mind that during the off-season, rental companies have a less strict minimum stay as well. You might be able to take a weekend or 4 day quick vacation in some condos! Myrtle Beach does have plenty to do, even in the winter, so it will be very easy to fill up your mini-vacation. It's about time for a break, right? Why not? Just because there is a beach, doesn't mean Myrtle Beach in the winter is any less enjoyable!
